Irish pubs in America
66Lets go "Pub Hopping"
Join with me on this journey across America pub hopping, Irish style. Each day I will be adding more pubs, be sure to check in and see where we are going next!
During the Great Hunger "Irish Potato Famine" over a million died and more emigrated. An estimated 5 million Irish people emigrated to America during this time and. Many of them landed in in Philadelphia; Chicago; Boston; New York City; New England; Baltimore; Pittsburgh; St. Paul, Minnesota;Cleveland; and the San Francisco Bay Area. Many cities across the country have annual St Patrick's Day parades, the nation's largest in New York City - Not to be forgotten, are the 56% of the people who claim Irish ancestry who are protestant and populate large areas of the southeastern United States especially in Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Kentucky,West Virginia and Virginia. More information at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irish_diaspora
These are the places will be focusing on for pub hoping.
St. Paul Minnesota is known for its connection to St. Patrick's Day since 1851. The settlement originally began at present-day Lambert's Landing, but was referred to as Pig's Eye when Pierre "Pig's Eye" Parrant established a popular tavern there. When Fr.Lucien Galtier, the first Catholic pastor of the region, established the Log Chapel of Saint Paul (shortly thereafter to become the first location of the Cathedral of Saint Paul), he made it known that the settlement was now to be called by that name, as "Saint Paul as applied to a town or city was well appropriated, this monosyllable is short, and a better name.
St. Paul has parades and all kinds of fun things going on during St. Patrick's Day There are three great pubs in St. Paul, Liffey, Patrick McGovern’s, O’Gara’s.
Chicago
Chicago is one of the best places to go during the St. Patrick's Day celebrations, watch them turn the Chicago river green! Chicago also has a parade and festivities. There are several Irish Pubs in Chicago but, here are a few I like.
Mount Greenwood Chicago has been a flourishing Irish community since the 1900's so its only fair that I put in Quigley's Irish Pub & Craft Beer Bar in this list of Irish pubs as it is located in this district. This would be as close to the Irish setting as you could get in America. Listen the their stories and visit with some Irish folks and their bonnie Irish accents! Here are a list of Irish bars in Chicago.

I really liked the men-only type Irish pub in the John Wayne movie, the Quiet Man. Men need such a place!
Wish I could find one in Phoenix.
I love the good Ole Irish Pubs and some here in Ohio actually serve up a mean Irish spread, buffet over St. Patrick's day. Great guide to Irish Pubs in American! :) Katie
What a great hub - I love a good Irish pub - there used to be so many in NYC. When I was in Dublin I had the pleasure of visiting one. Yay. I want to go back.
